My precious sister. Years ago you wrote this for me and I found a print of it in a treasure box. As I read it I realized that I now speak these words to you. Not from you to me, but from me to you. Thank you my friend, sister, and constant. I love you.
REACHING BACK - MARCH 24, 2007
When I came to you with muck on my face, wallowing in things not becoming of a woman of God, you said to me, " my sister, get up! we are running this race together and we will finish it together". You stopped and turned around, came back for me and extended your hand. I have never found a truer friend. I have known you most of my young life. You pushed me to the stage to share my voice and for that, I am thankful. We have seen one another through life and death, addictions and safety. Marriages and births. Years have gone by without a visit or word and yet in this God ordained season, you are the blessing of my heart. With all that behind us, nothing has ever meant more than you stopping to reach back for me in my hour of battle. Many have proclaimed to stand until my shortcomings were not as "pretty" as the rest of me. God is still working in me, I profess this great faith of Christ, but in no way have I arrived. Thank you for being Christ to me. A living, breathing example of what God would and has done for me. Thank you for reminding me that my life is a process, that friends are safe and friend isn't just a one way street or half-hearted title. Many people have friends, acquaintances, but in you, as David, I have found my Jonathan. As iron sharpens iron, you and I walk on. Thank you for seeing my heart and loving me enough to allow me to grow and fall and stumble without judgment or condemnation. Thank you for setting me straight and holding me accountable to the faith I love so dearly. Thank you for reminding me who I belong to and whose I am. Thank you for being a blessing of God to so many women and many more to come. If you ever doubt that you have anything to offer, think of this time. Think of returning when you could have simply walked on. You are my sister. You are my friend. You are Christ and for that, I owe you my life.
